Very good. However, be mindful that the introductory course can be pretty demanding for beginners filled with advanced concepts and techniques like lookinf for self. Some of the meditation guides talk without stopping leaving nothing else to notice than growing irritation, frustration and urges and images to strangle them to just shut their mouth. Maybe this is for advanced meditators :)

Looking for the looker!
So overall, I really enjoy it. I find it really helpful and I look forward to doing it every day. The only problem is that there does seem to be an inconsistent, but reoccurring glitch where it will randomly just pause. This sometimes seems to be correlated to my phone screen locking, but not always. It is fairly frustrating to be getting into it, and starting to separate from yourself only to have that experience abruptly halted. It would be great if this glitch could be sorted out.

These amounts are ridiculous. For the price they ask, you could get two streaming services. Half would be reasonable. I would continue using the app, and I am certainly not unwilling to pay for the experience. But €170? No.

TLDR : supports genocide. I wasn't super keen on this app anyway (I prefer and recommend Headspace), but hearing genocide-supporting comments on a podcast from the founder (that civilian deaths are justified) disgusted me. Never buying or listening to anything from this app or people related to it again.

Want to love this but…
Wow I don't feel welcome. Look, I like men & I often appreciate listening to the perspectives of men, there are some very smart men out there… but you can listen to this platform for hours and not encounter one woman. It's one massive manel. I can't imagine that statistically speaking there are so few women in the meditation/Self-Help space. What makes it sort of worse is that many of the men speaking use examples and pronouns and just make it very clear that they are speaking to other men. Throwing no shade to some of the amazing authors/speakers that have been given a voice on this platform, such as Oliver Burkeman and Seth Gillihan who are great. As for me, I think I'll spend my money buying audible books or substacks by individuals who I feel like count me as a worthy recipient of their wisdom.

What I found off-putting was the representational imbalance of the speakers. It's a white dude app. The message is great, and the meditations are helpful, but it's not particularly inclusive. Also, the only pictures (drawings) of speakers are drawings of men, so unless you strain your eyes to seek the women speakers, it appears that only men are on this app. But I do appreciate the app for introducing me to the work of Joan Toliffson which I have e found transformative.

Wow, after the last update the app got somewhat usable and a tool. The podcast are really impressive good selected and prepared, but they are all very, very long (more than one hour), in the meantime there status of your hearing progress is visible and stored👍Wow, we waited that long for it! The podcasts are very well prepared and from excellent sound quality but missing some written texts for non native English users (like me). The included timer is by far not as good as in Insight timer app

Great for mindfulness, not so great for deep rest
I really wanted to give 5 stars. The Sam Harris Introductory Course was the best meditation course that I ever took, really, life changer. Unfortunatlelly the deep rest course is not what I expected, the instructor Kelly Boys talks fast, loudly, in a frantic way, passing too many instructions at the same time, making it impossible to focus or rest. I downloaded the app for the deep rest course and for it I was disapointed , but luckly I discover the Sam Harris meditation course that change my perspective about meditation. I will continue with the mindfulness courses in the app, they are really worth it, nevermind the deep rest course.

Requested a refund
This app was pitched as an app to help you find balance and peace. It charges an expensive yearly subscription and is centred around Sam Harris who says questionable things in the extended interviews and horrendous things online. I have requested a refund as this is not what I signed up.
Waking Up: Meditation & Wisdom - Product Description
NOT JUST ANOTHER MEDITATION APP
Don’t think of Waking Up as a conventional meditation app—think of it as a new operating system for your mind, and a guide to living a better life.

We aim to offer a far deeper approach to mindfulness than you’ll find elsewhere—one that fundamentally transforms how you see yourself, and the world around you.

But you’ll also discover life-changing, secular wisdom from top scholars and experts, on everything from sleep and doing good in the world to time management and happiness.

Waking Up is free for anyone who can’t afford it. We never want money to be the reason why someone can’t benefit from what we’ve built.

***Created by Sam Harris
Sam Harris, neuroscientist and best-selling author, built Waking Up to be the resource he wished he’d had when he began exploring meditation over 30 years ago.

Sam only includes those practices and insights he’s found to be utterly life-changing. The same is true for the many teachers, scholars, and experts you’ll meet throughout the app.

***A step-by-step approach to mindfulness
We’ve heard from thousands of members who say they never really understood meditation until they took our 28-part Introductory Course.

Whether you’re a beginner or advanced practitioner, you’ll dive straight into the deep end of real mindfulness, so you don’t waste any time on the surface.

***Learn the true purpose of meditation
Meditation is about more than just relieving stress, sleeping better, or improving your focus. While it can help you do all of that, our goal is ultimately to help you open the door to a deeper understanding of yourself.

***A place for serious seekers
Explore some of life’s most important questions, on topics like neuroscience, psychedelics, enlightenment, ethics, and Stoicism—from renowned authors and professors like Oliver Burkeman, Michael Pollan, Laurie Santos, Arthur C. Brooks, James Clear, and others.

***In-depth theory and practice
Waking Up explains both the theory and the practice of meditation —so you don’t just learn the “how” of mindfulness, but also the “why.”

You’ll be guided by prominent figures like Joseph Goldstein, Diana Winston, Adyashanti, Jayasāra, and Henry Shukman, who teach a wide range of contemplative practices, including Vipassana, Zen, Dzogchen, Advaita Vedanta, and more.

***Timeless insights, modern lens
Within Waking Up, you’ll find some of the most profound spiritual teachings from throughout history—those that have stood the test of time. And you’ll hear from historic voices like Alan Watts.

But we also pressure-test ancient wisdom against modern science, so you won’t find outlandish claims or anything we haven’t found to be empirically true.

***A comprehensive guide
Waking Up supports your growth and development in a number of different ways. You’ll find an abundance of useful features, like meditation timers, in-app support messages, an ever-growing audio library, and daily reminders to help bring your mindfulness practice into your life—plus, Waking Up allows you to save all of your meditation sessions to your Apple Health app.
