No privacy
Bug-filled app. Exposing everyone's trails with default public tracks is an invasion of privacy and ruins the backcountry experience. Plus the app crashes every time I attempt to access account settings.

Serious Privacy Concerns
This used to be a great app. They've changed it so that now you must create an online account on some outside website in order to use the app. There is an “offline option” button, but when you click on it, all it does is tell you to “contact support.” Really disappointing. I don't want to create an online account with someone just to use an iPhone app, particularly one whose sole purposes is to track my movements. Gaia you are dead to me.

Not interested in a social media feed where they have "recommended brands" (ads) on an app that costs $60/year. Considering moving to a different app unless an update includes the option to remove the social media feed soon. Update: Cool canned response. Love the ad for audible in the social media feed on the map app that I am currently paying premium for. If you need more money just raise the price or make subscription tiers. I'll be moving to Caltopo.

This used to be a great app
I've used this app since 2017, it was great but the developers are ruining it. The app crashes on my iPad with the latest update. I do not want the social media integration. There should be a way to opt out of it. I just want a reliable navigation app, my life depends on it. Why when I want to save a track: - must I first choose an activity? - Then I have to remove the useless “cute” already filled-in unwanted track name, “Sunday Morning Hiking”. If you must add this useless fluff then give us the option of opting out otherwise I'm finding a different navigation app. UPDATE: the developers were able to address the problem on my iPad which was Apple security blocked the app for sharing user information. The response to my other complaints refers to the “drawer” which has nothing to do with my complaints. Again, I am asking - remove or allow users to opt out of unwanted fluff, i.e. forcing us to choose an unnecessary activity category, useless track names in the way of the users' track labels. Just provide a reliable GPS app.

I have used this app for years and loved it until recently. I don't know what is going on, but when I use it to track my hikes, it glitches like crazy. It shows me going way off track to places I definitely did not go. Also, it keeps shutting down and I have to restart the recording. I'm so disappointed. Considering going to something else.

Doesn’t work.
Was prompted to sign up for an Outside subscription with no option for only Gaia Premium. I reluctantly gave my credit card information outside of Apple subscriptions because I had no option. When I tried to add map layers, it prompted me to upgrade again, or restore my purchase. “Restore Purchase” did not work, but I was given the option to upgrade AGAIN, this time through Apple Subscriptions, and with the Premium option, which is all I wanted in the first place. So I did that, added layers, and still cannot see them, even after adjusting transparency. And there is no option to cancel the Outside subscription I just paid $90 for. On top of all that, their privacy terms are extremely invasive; they sell your information to third parties for ads. The whole experience had been infuriating, expensive, and for nothing gained from this unethical scam. Instead of Gaia, try Trails Offroad instead.

This used to be a good app. I am a premium member, and I can not log in anymore. I have contacted support. They are asking for a screenshot shot of my account. Every time I send it in, they block the image and tell me the email was empty. They just keep sending me the same email asking for a screenshot of my account. Broken record. Support tells me my account does not exist, but if I try to recreate the account the app says my account exists. Such a shame.

I'm a new user. This was a 5 star app for the first two times I used it (2/9/2025 and 2/16/2025). Unfortunately, since 2/23/2025 I've been getting the random tracking spikes that others are reporting. Your free maps, route planning, and overall interface are better than your competitors but I'm only giving 2 stars because of how much time I've spent trying to fix tracking spike or find a replacement. BTW I contacted support via the app, no need to give your standard response.
