Good but needs improvements
I've used Goodreads for years and overall it's a decent site/app. But they need to improve some things. I don't know why they won't add half stars because every other app does! It would be so much better if we had the half stars. I also don't like how they changed the yearly challenge. The new badges are cool, but why can't I see my friend's challenges anymore? And why do I have to click into it 2 times just to see the books I've read? It's annoying.

Helpful and easy, but….
Keeping track of what I want to read and also what I have read and when is so very helpful. It helps to eliminate keeping track of written lists and to also see what my friends are recommending. The only drawback was a recent change where we lost the ability to see what our friends reading challenges are and their progress. I wish that would come back.

Less than ideal
I'd like to make this my go to reading app but it's full of issues. The challenges feature seems all but useless I've read books this year that qualify with correct dates but they do not reflect as completed - how is something like this supposed to motivate me to read? Various links in the app seem to take you in circles and seem like it's just a poorly embedded webpage at times. The recommendations are pointless - despite having hundreds of books added and marked as read it still tries to force completed unrelated genres towards me and they more feel like ads than any type of personal recommendation - the alternative is setting wide categories as what genres I read but these still are awful suggestions. The rest of the app seems incredibly slow to update data with different pages being in different states rather than showing a user a consistent view this is 101 basics for app and data management. The list goes on .

Fictitious Notification Icon
Overall, I enjoy Goodreads, but the fictitious notification icon it employs, presumably to increase the number of times you access the app, is deceitful and unethical. You do not see this overt social engineering in apps owned and run by legitimate companies. Remove this poor business practice and I would consider the app to be five stars.

Unresponsive
I keep getting spammed from different accounts that have the same picture. I've reported them and haven't gotten any communication and still get multiple requests a day

I have an Android, and this app doesn't even allow the bare minimum. I can't join any reading groups while in the app. I can't see comments that I write. There is no option to switch to the desktop version while in the app.

Allow you to rate 0.5
I hate how you can only rate books with 1,2,3,4,5 it would be so more useful to be able to rate 1.5 or even 1.25 because books are never just 1,2,3,4,5

I love it, and it's a handy app. But, for the love of all things, I would write an in-depth review and then go through to fix my typos where sometimes the slightest thing will close my review before it's saved. For example, I have a habit of holding down the space bar and using it to move the cursor around, which would close my review, and that's like 15 minutes gone and no draft option. Yes, that's on me, but I guess an automatic "dragt" save option would be amazing.

I am not entirely sure why the android app is sig ifantly different to iPhone? People in my bookclub use iPhone and the layout looks cleaner and more smooth but most importantly they can search for friends and add people much easier. The version I have won't let me search for friends unless they are in my phone contacts. It is bizarre. Please fox it and make it same across all devices.
